Marissa was one of the most public faces of Google, having joined in 1999 as employee number 20 and the company’s first female

engineer. She held key roles in Google Search, Images, News, Maps, Gmail and oversaw the layout of Google’s famous homepage. The helm of Yahoo is a huge role, but she carries a lot of goodwill with her. Marissa is an inspiration to many women in our industry, leading one of the biggest companies in the world whilst only 37 and pregnant!
Succeed were honoured to win the coveted UKOUG PeopleSoft Partner of the Year competition last year. The award is voted for by end users, which made us particularly proud. This year, we’re hoping to retain our crown. If you like our work or what we stand for, head over to the link above to vote. Thanks!
Functional
Jacki W, one of Succeed’s HCM and GP experts, has run the rule over Fusion’s use of the PeopleSoft ‘person model’ and how it has been tweaked with the introduction of Employment Terms.
Technical
David Wiggins – one of Succeed’s premier Techs – shows just how simple it is to create a BI Publisher report using just 7 lines of PeopleCode.

It wasn’t long ago that Oracle seemed to be going from strength to strength; with several successful outcomes in the European Court, completion of its 75th acquisition and a share price at a 10 year high to name a few. However, with the recent blows how will Oracle respond?
Larry Ellison may have a reputation for being a top earner, but Apple CEO Tim Cook earned $378 million compensation in 2011, becoming the highest paid valley executive for 2011. Unfortunately for him most of his money is in restricted stock and not a gigantic pile of cash (so he’ll have to wait a little longer to buy an Hawaiian island).
And Finally…

Are all Project Managers evil dictators? Of course not, but here’s why one notorious evil dictator was just a misunderstood Project Manager.

Oracle has said that it has acquired Involver, a company that focuses on Social Markup Language and development platforms. According to Oracle this is technology that will be used to market brands through social media and used to manage campaigns across the likes of Twitter and Facebook.

One of Succeed’s Senior Functional Consultants compares the model for Organisation Structures as we’re used to them in PeopleSoft against how they’ll be setup in Fusion.
A summary of the more important points revealed in the Release Value Proposition.

There’s a new product available that enables Campus Solutions customers to allow their students to access useful areas of the system via their mobiles. The headline above links to a YouTube demo video. Their website can be found here.
And Finally
This week jubilant scientists discovered the God particle. However, for some, the most shocking revelation to come out of CERN’s announcement was unrelated to the science itself. Rather, that the powerpoint used the Comic Sans font.

The Applications Portal (previously the Enterprise Portal) allowed clients to use many of the capabilities for free, and this change has extended the feature set to include Dynamic Unified Navigation and Site-wide branding.
The second revision of PeopleSoft CRM 9.1 has been released onto eDelivery.

Although it seems to still be six weeks from launch a new website has appeared proporting to be ‘the Enterprise App Store’. It appears to be a 3rd party venture – not created by Oracle – so we’ll be watching this one with interest.

News and Latest Developments
Oracle released the latest patch for PeopleTools 8.52 on 16th June. The download files are linked to above.
In a move that surprised many (or at least surprised those who

assumed he already owned an island) Larry has purchased the Hawaiian island of Lanai for an estimated $500-600m. Lanai is approx 1000x the size of Richard Branson’s island retreat. It is unclear whether he is going to use it to host the next OpenWorld, or merely going to build a lair from which to plot world domination.
The court in Oracle’s patent claim against Google has decided that not only did Google not infringe Oracle’s code, but they don’t have to pay Oracle any damages either. To really rub salt into the wounds, it seems that Oracle may have to pay Google’s legal fees too.

Jim Marion documents how to convert an Oracle Virtual Machine template into a Virtual Box instance. This will help anyone who is eager to try the templates but doesn’t have some spare hardware to reformat and load OVM host onto. This is the companion post to Jim’s first entry (Converting PeopleSoft OVM Templates to VirtualBox Guests).
Jacki – one of Succeed’s payroll consultants – runs the rule over Fusion, from the perspective of a PeopleSoft expert.

A video interview with Larry Ellison at the 10th D: All Things Digital conference, which sees him in very relaxed, but also forthcoming mood. One of the best soundbites was on his perceived resistence to the cloud: “I started NetSuite, NetSuite was my idea … 6 months later Marc Benioff copied it”. It’s a little long (39mins until the questions, but there’s some great anti-Workday points after that point) but it’s an entertaining insight into the man himself.
Tools and Code
The delivered PeopleSoft sign-on screen is perfectly functional, however as it’s the first screen your users see when they log on it’s worth putting in a little effort to make the right impression. We’ve found that adding a page that’s branded – so it’s both attractive to look at and recognisable as ‘one of our systems’ – creates far more positive feelings than one that’s left as vanilla. Here’s how you can get one the easy way.
