The PeopleSoft Weekly team is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our email list subscribers. In particular, we want you to know that we are not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes.
GDPR and Email Newsletters
The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a new set of European privacy laws that come into force in May 2018 and which protect the personally identifiable information of EU data subjects (typically EU residents). You can learn more about how we abide by these laws on this page.
Please note that this page only describes our GDPR compliance and policies in relation to our subscribers.
Data Collection of Personally Identifiable Information
On sign-up we collect the subscriber’s email address, name and role in order to send the newsletters and to personalise the content slightly. The platform we use also stores
- Opt-in confirmation time
- Opt-in confirmation IP address
- City and country (sometimes)
- Approximate Latitude/Longitude (calculated from opt-in IP address)
We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice. You can unsubscribe to the newsletter at any time of the day or night by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails.
None of the subscriber information collected is shared with any third parties, although from time-to-time we may produce a blog post on aggregated data to highlight popular topics. These blog posts will not contain any personally identifiable data.
Access to your Personal Information
You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. Email your request to email@example.com.
The Basis for Handling Your Data
We have determined that for our use of your personal data, the “Legitimate Interest” basis is appropriate. Handling of personal data to send email newsletters to our subscribers passes the three relevant tests:
Purpose test. Is there a legitimate interest behind the processing? It is in both the interest of us and our readers for us to be able to send them the publications they have requested and we store the information required to be able to do this (their email address).
Necessity test. It is necessary for us to store subscribers’ email addresses in order to be able to send them the publications they have specifically and directly requested
Balancing test. This test requires we take into account the impact on individuals of our data processing practices. Our subscribers are principally adults representing businesses and who have explicitly requested to receive our newsletters. We use their personal information to send them the newsletters requested (and opted into via a double opt-in process). Use of their personally identifiable information for other purposes would require a further basis, though no such processing is currently undertaken, and we use our subscribers’ data in only ways that they would reasonably expect us to.
Further to the above, our use of the double opt-in process also affords us an audit trail of informed consent for each subscriber based upon the opt-in confirmation time and the IP address used.
